Accommodation & Welfare at Lord Wandsworth College

THE HOUSES

Students get a genuine British boarding school experience by staying on-site in bright and spacious houses. On warm summer evenings, they can enjoy the gardens or make use of the large and well-equipped common areas. We encourage cultural exchange by mixing the nationalities of students in their bedrooms.* Our houses:

• Are all within easy walking distance of the classrooms, dining rooms, and sports facilities

• Each have a designated House Parent

• Shared Rooms (2-6 beds), to suit every need

• Feature common areas with TVs, sofas, and games

• Include a kitchen for students to make snacks and hot drinks

• Provide a personal laundry service for machine-washable clothes

• Have free, monitored WiFi in every room

Student Welfare

The safety and well-being of our students is central to everything we do at English Study Camps by Wimbledon School of English.

We ensure student welfare with:

  • Caring and dedicated staff

  • A designated Welfare Manager at each centre

  • First aiders at each centre and on excursions

  • An average ratio of 1:8 staff to students on excursions ensures our students are well looked after

  • Dedicated accommodation staff who liaise with students and hosts to ensure students are happy and comfortable in their homestay accommodation

  • House Parents and residential staff in every residence

  • Level 3 safeguarding training for all our senior managers

  • DBS checks for all our staff and host families

  • First aiders on site at the residential centres and links with local doctors’ surgeries and hospitals

Meals

Food at LWC

We know the importance that good quality food plays in learning and development, and we work with the Lord Wandsworth team to ensure a balanced and varied diet of traditional English and international dishes.

All students receive:

• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout their stay

• Snacks in their houses

• Options of vegetarian, halal, dairy-free, and gluten-free meals

• Packed lunches for excursion days

• The option to buy extra refreshments and snacks at an on-site Tuck Shop

UK Student Mentor Programme

Our UK student mentors are invited to become cultural ambassadors while taking part in our Hampshire programme. As members of the student body, they assist students from around the world in learning about British culture. The programme offers a rich multicultural experience while bridging the gap between UK students and their international peers.

Last year, we welcomed 27 different nationalities at Lord Wandsworth College, and for UK student mentors, they have the opportunity to make friends and learn about different cultures. Our mentors will live on campus in our residences with other international students and will participate as students in our Future Business Leaders course and in activities with the rest of the students. This unique platform not only cultivates cultural exchange but also nurtures leadership skills and a global mindset among our UK student mentors.

Student Mentor Testimonial

“I was a British student mentor, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience helping the international kids improve their English and understand British culture. I've made many friends that I'm still in contact with to this day”
